1500 Bingham University Students Suspended For Skipping Chapel

No fewer than a thousand and five hundred students of theBingham University, Abuja have been sent packing from the institution.
The management handed a two-week suspension to the students for refusing to attend chapel on Wednesday, June 11.
A student of the university who refused to disclose his identity for fear of been expelled revealed that: some of the suspended students have already left the campus.
"The students were suspended for not going for Chapel on Wednesday."
"We were all surprised because many students have for long being skipping chapel without any repercussion until this mass suspension," the source said.
Daring the VC
Another source, who also spoke off record said the suspension came after the Vice Chancellor Prof.Samuel Kursim Leonard made a surprise visit to the chapel and found out that only a few students attended.
"He locked up the chapel and took attendance. He then said all those who failed to attend will be suspended."
He also disclosed that while some students were pleading with the VC, others were goading him with derogatory comments.
"Some of them said he should do his worse and suspend them. They said the suspension will only give them an opportunity to watch the World Cup."
Rejecting the olive branch
Our source however added that the management gave the suspended students an opportunity to redeem themselves before issuing the suspension letters.
"The students were asked to write apology letters but they refused."
It was after this that the students' parents were notified of their wards' suspension effective from today.
Maintaining moral standards
Bingham University, established by the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), is noted for enforcing high Christian moral standards.
"The founding fathers intend to meet the soaring need for not only quality secular tertiary education but education that recognises and integrates moral and spiritual values in the face of degenerating social decadence in Nigerian University campuses," the institution's website states.
Students have not protested the mass suspension and this has been attributed to the lack of a functional students union body in the institution.
