Dimensions
Compared to iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 is a bit thinner and longer. This is important because it is comfortable and easy to hold while its back is made of aluminum. For the 4S, the back is made of glass.
Weight
iPhone 4S is 140g while iPhone 5 is only 112g. The older model feels much like paperweight once you have used iPhone 5, which is much lighter.
Display
The two iPhones have a sport 326ppi unique Retina display. The PPI (pixels per inch) are the same, but iPhone 5 has an extra half-inch of display to give it a 4-inch IPS while 4S has a 3.5-inch IPS. In turn, the resolution is increased as the aspect ratio is shifted to 16:9. While those who have used iPhones for sometime will find it uncomfortable at the beginning, the extra room will in turn make sense when it comes to web pages, photos and apps.
iPhone 5 also has a thinner display with the pixels brought nearer the surface through a combination of touch sensors layer, including 40% greater saturation of color.
Processor
In each model, there is a noticeable change of speed. The Apple A6 in the iPhone 5′s chip is one of a kind and goes beyond the expectations of most users. While the 4S's Apple A5 chip runs at 800MHz, the A6 in iPhone 5 runs at 1.3GHz. However, the A6 can also be underworked, especially to save some power. For a unique modern Smartphone, 4S performs rather well and maintains admirable standards.
RAM
While 4s has a RAM of 512MB, iPhone 5 almost doubles it at 1GB, making it a hugely fast paced Smartphone.
Storage capacity
In terms of storage, iPhone 4S offers a single option for flash memory of 16GB only. On the other hand, iPhone 5 offers different flash memory options of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
Internet Speeds
With iPhone 5, the handset is taken to a whole new level with 4G speeds including LTE whenever it is available. Real downloading LTE speeds sometimes begin at 8Mbps to a high of 40Mbps. In other words, it is much faster than most broadband connections running in some homes. iPhone 4S is however limited to 3G, much lower speeds, although HSPA+ 14.4 is sometimes labeled as 4G in 4S. However, it is better to refer to it as 3G+ since it is faster than most 3Gs although not anywhere near LTE.
Battery Life
Uptimes in both 4S and 5 are similar. In the iPhone 5 the battery allows 8 talking hours, 8 hours on the 3G/LTE web and 10 hours on the Wi-Fi. 4S allows 8 talking hours, 6 hours on the 3G web and 9 hours on Wi-Fi. It is worth remembering that to maintain the life of a battery at the same time enhancing performance and bringing in LTE into the mix has never been a cup of tea.
Camera
In terms of the camera, the difference between the two is minimal. 4S sports an 8MP rear camera, VGA for the front one and a 1080p video. iPhone 5 on its part sports an 8MP rear camera, a 1.2MP for the front camera and a 1080p video with a low-light shooting improvement.
So look, think before you buy for me no need to think .
